THE TRUSTEES

Raymond Evison, O.B.E., VMH., ( President)

Raymond is the owner of The Guernsey Clematis Nursery Ltd and Raymond J. Evison Ltd, and is a well known nurseryman and breeder, horticultural exhibitor, horticultural judge, lecturer, author and photographer.

He was born of a gardening family, and began his horticultural career at Treasures of Tenbury Ltd in Shropshire. After becoming a junior partner, he served as Managing Director until 1986, when he moved to Guernsey. The Guernsey Clematis Nursery produces some 3 - 4 million young clematis annually for the world market, in over 200 species and cultivars and has a 20% share of the world market for young clematis.

As an exhibitor at the Royal Horticultural Society's Shows, including the Chelsea Flower Show, Raymond is the recipient of numerous gold medals, five Williams Memorial medals and the coveted Lawrence Medal, awarded annually to the best exhibit shown to the Society during the year.

In June 2005 he was appointed a Vice President of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). Although an honorary title, holders of the office of Vice President are appointed by the Society in recognition both of their past contribution and their potential to act as ambassadors for the Society in the future. He is a member of Council of the RHS and a Trustee, and Chairman of the RHS Woody Plants Committee and the RHS Plant Advisory Committee He is a former Chairman of the Malvern and Harrogate Spring and Autumn Flower Shows.

Raymond has lectured around the world and in 1995 was awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour by the RHS for his outstanding service to British Horticulture, and was also made The Guernsey Ambassador of the Year.

In the 2000 New Year's Honours List, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his services to horticulture in Guernsey.

Advocate Michael Eades ( Chairman)

Michael became a Barrister-at-Law in 1980 and an Advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey in 1981. He was the Chairman of the Guernsey Bar from 2001 to 2003.

A former Member of the States of Guernsey Heritage Committee, and a Past President of The National Trust of Guernsey, Michael has a keen interest in the conservation of Guernsey Heritage sites and in gardens and plants.

Peter Warry ( Hon. Treasurer)

Peter was born in Guernsey and educated at Elizabeth College, Guernsey and Sherborne School, Dorset. He signed Articles with the Guernsey branch of a firm of Chartered Accountants in 1964, subsequently transferring to their London office. Following this, Peter spent 10 years with BP in London in a broad mix of accountancy related roles.

Peter joined the Guernsey office of the Ansbacher financial services group in 1979, becoming Managing Director of its Guernsey bank in 1998. He was a trustee of its Guernsey pension fund and life assurance scheme. In 2001 he joined an independent Guernsey trust company as its compliance director, retiring in 2006.

Peter was the initial treasurer of Les Bourgs Hospice fund raising committee and is currently a member of the Guernsey fund raising committee for ActionAid.

Jurat Claire Le Pelley

After qualifying as a legal and commercial translator, Claire worked in banking in London, Brussels and Paris.

After returning to Guernsey, Claire was elected Parish Constable and Douzenier of St Pierre du Bois and member of the States of Guernsey where she served on or chaired a wide variety of Committees and Departments. After retirement from the States, she was nominated in 2008 to the honour and responsibilities of a Jurat of the Royal Court.

A great interest in Guernsey's history, and enthusiasm for gardening, led Claire to assist the Trust with the research necessary to recreate the Walled Garden as it was in the time of the late James de Saumarez, working with the present Lord de Saumarez in producing and documenting some of the history of the park.

Mike de Carteret

Mike was born in Jersey and educated at Victoria College, with further education at EMI College of Electronics. He joined Channel TV in 1962, responsible for the management of the technical installation and the start of CTV broadcasting later that year.

Mike came to Guernsey in 1987 as branch manager for Rediffusion, later becoming Operations Manager for Rediffusion Channel Islands. He rejoined CTV in 1988 as sound engineer following the sale of Rediffusion, and later became cameraman until retiring in 1994.

He has been a member of the Lions Club of Guernsey for 13 years, and a committee member of NCCPG Guernsey Group since 1999. Mike has been heavily involved in research and planning for the Walled Gardens Project since 2005 and has been a Trustee since 2008.
